Australia’s domestic T20 tournament, the Big Bash League, has witnessed some flawless fielding efforts this season and New Zealand’s Super Smash, is not the one to be overlooked. During the Super Smash final between Wellington Firebird and Auckland Aces on Sunday, captain of the Auckland side, Craig Cachopa took an absolute stunner, flying to his left, to dismiss Devon Conway on 49 off 37 deliveries.

New Zealand pacer McClenaghan delivered a full delivery to Conway. The batsman who had already smashed five boundaries till then, went for a powerful drive but Cachopa glided to his left, stuck his hand out and completed the superlative catch.

Cachopa’s effort was all the more crucial for Auckland Aces with Conway looking ruthless and Wellington gazing upon podium finish.

In the next three overs, Auckland Aces gave 25 runs and collected three wickets. And just when it looked like Willington would not go past 150 mark, Logan van Beek knocked an unbeaten 15 off just 8 deliveries to take his team to 168/7 in stipulated 20 overs.

In response, Martin Guptill gave the Auckland a great push off but found little support from the other three top-order batsmen. Colin Munro was out for 9, Glenn Phillips was sent back to the pavilion by Jimmy Neesham for 7 while Mark Chapman managed just 8 as Auckland found themselves in trouble at 61 for three in 9.1 overs.

Martin Guptill and skipper Cachopa then put in 42 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter was sent packing by van Beek for 25.

Van Beek got rid of the next two batsmen in quick succession to put his team firmly on the driving seat. Guptill's departure for 60 was the final blow for Auckland as they could only put up 146/9 in 20 overs to lose the final by 22 runs.
