BJP 2-year event row: Twitter gives it back to Congress for attacking Amitabh Bachchan

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 25 May 2016, 21:35 IST

The Congress went all out while attacking the Narendra Modi government over reports that Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan will host an event on 28 May to commemorate two years of BJP government in office.

Bachchan was at the receiving end of Congress' ire because his name had appeared in the Panama Papers leak recently. The leak, that gave details of high-profile personalities from across the world who parked their money in tax havens, is being investigated by Indian probe agencies.

However, the attack didn't hold steam for long. First, contrary to what was reported earlier, the actor is not hosting the bash for BJP. He is only participating in one segment of the event that deals with the 'Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao' initiative. Bachchan was also made the UN ambassador for girl child in 2014. It is only befitting that he speak about the issue at the BJP event. Later, his son Abhishek Bachchan also clarified that his father was not hosting any party meant for a political purpose.

While Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor and others in his fraternity came out in support of him, Twitter bashed the Congress for making a controversy out of the issue. Tweeples wondered how despite the National Herald case, the Gandhis could attend the Parliament. Or why did they never apply the same moral standards while aligning with RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav, who is out on bail in the Fodder Scam, in Bihar?
