The Bombay High Court has warned the Maharashtra government that contempt proceedings can be issued against it if the latter fails to issue a resolution directing private hospitals to treat sexual harassment/acid attack and rape victims, free of cost.

According to a dna report, a bench comprising Justice PD Naik and Justice AS Oka which was hearing a bunch of petitions on the issue of women's safety was informed by counsel Rajeev Chavan that the government had during earlier hearings in principle agreed to issuing a resolution but has till date not done so.

By the said decision, private hospitals will have to treat women who have been victims of rape or any sexual offence and the government will foot the bill.

The bench posted the petitions for further hearing on 21 June and directed the government to inform the court about the resolution.
