Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi to take away free rice distribution of families failing to comply with Swachh Bharat Mission

The Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi made an announcement on saturday that if villagers will throw garbage in open area or any villager will go for open defecation then on such places there will be no free distribution of rice. She said from now the distribution of rice will be based on conditions. It is notable that half of the popullation of Union territory is dependend upon free distribution of rice.

The Lt Governaor of the Union territory said, those villages which are now open defecation free and they are not dumping plastic and Garbage in open, on such places te free rice will be distributed after approval and certificate of local MLA and department of supply. This new order will apply from June, a margin of four weeks time has been given to villagers and related officers so that they can clean their nearby places.

 

She released a statement that “distribution of free rice to villagers shall be conditional to the certification of the village being open defecation free and free of strewn garbage and plastics by submitting a joint certificate given by the MLA and the Commune Commissioner to the Civil Supplies Commissioner.”

The last date for securing the certificate is 31 May she added “Till then the free rice supplies will be kept on hold and in safe storage. It shall be distributed to the beneficiaries on the village being certified clean. The certification shall also be cross-checked to ensure its veracity.”
