J-K: One terrorist gunned down by security forces in Sopore encounter; operation underway

In an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorist in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday, the terrorist was killed. The encounter broke out in Warpora village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on late Thursday night.

According to media reports, more than two terrorists have been trapped. The operation is underway. "As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing encounter," the police said.


The mobile internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas have been suspended by authorities. Earlier in Pulwama encounter, security forces killed Jaish-e-Mohammed operative and mastermind of the Pulwama terror attack Ghazi Rasheed alias Kamran, along with two other terrorists. In the fierce encounter, an army major and four other security personnel were also killed.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Amit Kumar, was also injured in the gunbattle between militants and security forces in Pinglana area of the district.

The encounter comes days after the deadly Pulwama terror attack on security personnel convoy in which over 40 CRPF personnel were killed. Reportedly, in awake of the terror threat, restrictions have been imposed in the town to maintain law and order.
