Congress on 10% reservation for economically weaker upper castes: ‘der kar di meherbaan aate aate'

The Union Cabinet approved a 10 per cent Reservation for economically backward upper castes on Monday. The main Opposition Congress immediately attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government after it announced 10% Reservation to Upper Castes people.

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Monday took a dig at BJP government over the 10 % quota for upper castes calling its too late. “Bohot der kar di meherbaan aate aate', that also when elections are around the corner. No matter what they do, what 'jumlas' they give, nothing is going to save this Government,” said Harish Rawat.


10 per cent reservation approved by Union Cabinet is for economically weaker upper caste sections in Government jobs and education. Ahead of the General elections this year, the government has announced reservation in jobs for those belonging to the upper castes and earning less than Rs 8 lakh per year, according to IndianExpress.

A bill to amend Article 15 and 16 of the constitution will be moved in Parliament to this effect. The Supreme Court has capped the quota for caste-based reservation for government jobs at 50%.

The Reservation benefits will be given to economically weaker upper caste people. Cabinet clears 10% quota economically backward class. Government to move constitutional amendment tomorrow.
