Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to ban single-use plastic in the country. Shami was attending an event organised by Hindustan Petroleum in Amroha where he explained why Narendra Modi’s move should be supported.

“We all know that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started an initiative of cleaning the country be it Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or banning plastic in the country. We all must come forward and support Prime Minister's initiatives and be the pacesetters for the cause,” Shami was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.

“There are many ill effects of plastic on the environment. We should use plastic as less as possible and should take it away from our children,” Shami added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about banning single-use plastic on his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and he also mentioned it in his latest Independence Day speech. Modi is planning to launch a ‘mass movement’ in the country from October 2, which is the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Mohammed Shami had a wonderful World Cup as he took 14 wickets from just 4 games including a hat-trick against Afghanistan.
