Ranveer Singh will play the lead in Aditya Chopra's highly-anticipated directorial, Befikre, Yash Raj Films has announced on Twitter.

"Befikre is going to be a very special film for me and my dream of working with Aditya Chopra is finally going to be realised. I started to cry when Aditya Chopra told me that I am a part of his next film. This is a really big deal for me and is something that is very close to my heart. Adi sir could have cast anyone from the industry, but he chose me for his film and that means a lot to me," Ranveer Singh said.

The youthful love story marks Aditya Chopra's return to the director's chair six years after his 2008 hit Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Befikre will be Chopra's first film to not feature his favourite actor Shah Rukh Khan.

Watch Ranveer Singh speak about Befikre:

The director considers Befikre to be one of the riskiest films to have been made under the YRF banner. However, he has expressed confidence that audiences will connect to the heartfelt love story.

On Yash Chopra's birthday, Aditya Chopra took to Twitter to announce his next directorial by establishing an imaginary conversation with the late legendary director. The movie is expected to go on floors early next year.
