Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Badrinath Ki Dulhania starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt is the second instalment of the Dulhania franchise. The film has got a wide release on 3200 to 3300 screens in India and is expected to embark onto a good start at the box office.

The theatrical trailer of the film was received well and generated the necessary hype however the songs fell a bit short in comparison to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

Target Audience:

Badrinath Ki Dulhania is likely to appeal to a vast audience base right from the youth in metros to the masses in the interiors of our country. The film is presented as a family entertainer and over the weekend, it should get ample of support from family audiences as well.

The Varun Dhawan – Alia Bhatt film will primarily do well at the multiplexes however the fate at the single screens would be much better than the past few urban love stories by Dharma like OK Jaanu, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Baar Baar Dekho.

Box Office Prediction:

  • Opening Day: Rs 13.50 crore to 14.50 crore
  • Opening Weekend: Rs 48 crore
  • Opening Week: Rs 75 crore
  • Lifetime Collection: Rs 105 crore

Analysis:

Badrinath Ki Dulhania is a safe film as far as economics are concerned as the producers are already in profits due to revenue from satellite, music and other rights. The distributors Fox Star Studios too have acquired the film as a part of their 9 film deal with Dharma and recovery for them would not be a tedious task.

It is essential for Badrinath Ki Dulhania to even win the perception battle at the box office by comfortably surpassing the collections of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania which raked in around Rs 78 crore in 2013.

Despite the crowd pleasing genre, the release period isn’t very favourable due to the exam fever and the film would lose a considerable chunk of business in its opening weekend. However, the word of mouth might make up for the initial losses in the long run.

The expected verdict is Super Hit.
