In what was a topsy-turvy match, India's world number one doubles player Sania Mirza and her partner Prarthana Thombare narrowly lost to China's Shuai Peng-Shuai Zhang, 6-7, 7-5, 5-7 to stumble out in the first round. The match was full of break of serves. Mirza-Thombare were at one point serving for the first set, and they lost that. Mirza-Thombare were at it again, serving for the second set at 5-4, and they couldn't do that. They did win the set 7-5 to take it into a decider.

From 1-3 down in the third to 4-3 up, Mirza-Thombare were doing all they could to outfox Peng-Zhang. Down 5-4 in the decider, Mirza-Thombare produced some exceptional skill to make it 5-5. Ultimately, the Chinese pair were too strong and ended up winning the final set 5-7.

Gaurav Kalra summed it up best on Twitter, "feisty performance but not enough in the end- Sania and Prarthana are out"
