EVKS Elangovan resigns as Tamil Nadu Congress committee chief

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 25 June 2016, 13:53 IST

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president EVKS Elangovan has reportedly submitted his resignation to the Congress high command.

Elangovan has reportedly claimed the responsibility for the party's loss in the recently-concluded state Assembly elections.

According to media reports, the resignation could have been a pre-emptive move since senior Congress leaders were already planning a change in the TNCC leadership. The Congress party high command was reportedly angry with Elangovan over the unsatisfactory performance of the party in the recent assembly polls. The Congress won just eight of the 41 seats that it contested as part of the DMK alliance.

However, Elangovan has reportedly claimed that the decision was voluntary.
