Suspected terrorists loot rifles from police picket in Kulgam

A massive manhunt has been launched to nab suspected militants who fled with four rifles and other ammunition from Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district late on 7 May.

The incident took place when the suspected terrorist overpowered a police guard personnel deployed on a 'minority police picket' and snatched three rifles.

According to reports besides the rifles, six magazines were also stolen.

JD (U) MLC's son kills youth for 'overtaking'

JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi's son Rocky Yadav shot dead a youth late on 7 May, after he overtook Yadav's car, following which his father Bindi Yadav was detained by the Rampur Police on Sunday.

Aditya Sachdeva, the victim, was returning home after celebrating his birthday, when he overtook Rocky's car.

"There was no enmity or friendship with the youth who died. Both of the sides were returning from Bodh Gaya. All five of them were under the influence of alcohol. Madam's bodyguard was also with them. They overtook the car and stopped it. My son was driving the car.four, five of them pulled him out the car and started beating him," Bindi Yadav told ANI.

Vinesh and Sakshi sealed their spots for the global event after reaching the finals of women's wrestling 48kg and 58kg freestyle categories respectively on the second day of the competition.

Bangladesh youth killed during voting in Comilla

A youth was killed near a voting centre in Comilla's Brahmanpara upazila of Bangladesh on 7 May as the fourth phase of union parishad polls were underway.

The deceased, Tapos Das, 30, sustained stab injuries to the head and chest during a clash that broke out at Uttar Chandala Bazar in Madhobpur union, The Daily Star reported.

Police said an altercation ensued between the supporters of two member candidates Sultan Ahmed and Rezaul Karim of Chandla union parishad. Both the groups pounced on each other, leaving one person dead and five others injured in the resulting clash, said Badiuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Brahmanpara Police Station.

Himachal bus accident: Rs 5 lakh compensation announced for deceased's kin

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on 8 May announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the kin of the deceased in last night's accident, where at least 12 passengers were killed and 43 injured, when a bus plunged into a deep gorge in Mandi district.

Due to ongoing strike of the 108 ambulance employees union, the authorities had to face difficulties in the rescue operation. State Transport Minister GS Bali has ordered an enquiry into the incident.

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus was on its way to Reckong Peo from Dharamshala when it met with the accident on Pathankot-Manali National Highway in Gallu area.

Nine people, including the driver, died on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries in various hospitals.
