6 facts about Bajaj V, India's only bike built using scrap metal from INS Vikrant

The INS Vikrant, India's first aircraft carrier may have been dismantled in 2014, but Bajaj is keen to continue to use metal from the iconic carrier to manufacture bikes.

The Bajaj V, which was showcased in New Delhi today, will be built using the scraped metal obtained from INS Vikrant. "Metal from the INS Vikrant will be used to make the fuel tank of the bike," said Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto.

Here are quick facts about the mighty Bajaj V:

1) The price of the bike has not been revealed but it will be between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 70,000 and is likely to be closer to 60 K than 70 K, according to Bajaj.

2) Production of the new bike will start from February 5th and 20,000 units of the bike will be made each month. Delivery of the bike will only start in March. The bike will currently, only be sold in India and not exported to any country.

Bajaj refused to comment on how many units in total will be made or how much metal do they have or what percentage of metal is used in each bike.

3) "While Bajaj is already a leader in half of the Indian bike market, the other half has been elusive. Considering the fact that commuters buy 125cc bikes, things were kept simple," added Rajiv Bajaj while talking about the company's strategy.

4) The bike will come with a new 150cc DTS-i engine that develops 11.76 bhp and 13Nm. The company claims the Bajaj V offers 25 percent more torque as compared to leading names in the 125cc segment.

5) In terms of features, it gets a removable cowl for pillion seat, 18 inch tyre in the front and 16 inch at the rear. Furthermore, the bike will also carry INS Vikrant insignia on the fuel tank.
