Telugu Box Office: Mahesh Babu's Brahmotsavam has a disastrous Day 1, sends shock waves

Last Friday saw the release of much-awaited Telugu film, Mahesh Babu-starrer, Brahmotsavam.

Touted as a family entertainer, Brahmotsavam marked the second collaboration of director-actor duo, Srikanth Addala and Mahesh Babu after their blockbuster outing Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chetto. The film had everything going in its favour and the entire Tollywood industry was expecting a spectacular response for Brahmotsavam.

But in what is bound to spell trouble for the makers, Brahmotsavam opened to a disastrous start at the ticket windows. The Mahesh Babu starrer was expected to enjoy a flying start at the Box Office like the actor's previous release, Srimanthudu. But with its lukewarm opening, the family entertainer's performance sent shock waves to its makers and fans. The film opened to packed houses in all the early shows but a significant drop was seen from the noon shows itself due to the outright negative reports.

Brahmotsavam was expected to break the opening collection of Sardar Gabbar Singh, which minted Rs 21 crore at the Box Office. Unfortunately, on its opening day, Brahmotsavam had collected a disappointing Rs 12.75 from the Box Office. The film has even failed to cross the Rs 15 crore opening day collection of Mahesh Babu's 2015 release, Srimanthudu.

The negative reviews have affected the film's performance overseas as well. In the USA,Brahmotsavam registered excellent occupancy on Thursday by making $5, 57, 000 from the premiere shows. But the film's collections dropped considerably on Friday due to the negative word-of-mouth.

It will be interesting to see how Brahmotsavam performs on Saturday and Sunday.
