10 roles that prove Unni Mukundan is one of the most versatile actors of young generation

Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is riding high in 2017 with the super success of Achayans. The comedy-entertainer, which had released in May emerged as the biggest box office grosser of the actor's career. Unni's debut song 'Anuragam Puthumazha Pole' too earned a chart buster status. Work front, the Muscle Aliyan of Malayalam cinema has some impressive projects in his kitty including Clint, Masterpiece. His second Telugu film, Bhagmati opposite Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty is slated to release soon.

Apart from his acting talent, Unni Mukundan is also acknowledged for the different genres of roles which he has done in his 6-year long career so far. From action to romance to comedy, Unni has succeeded to impress the audience with his versatility. He puts in all his efforts in whatever he does and makes sure to do justice with his characters. Even the actor's second look from his recent release Avarude Ravukal has been circulated in the name of Mohanlal's son Pranav Mohanlal ahead of the film's theatrical release. Unni looked completely unrecognizable in the look and yes we can't blame the poor media for it. Well, this is not the first time the Mallu Sallu has donned different looks for his films. In fact, within short period of time, he has sported various looks and has nailed it every time on screen.

1) Mallu Singh

Mallu Singh

Though he made his acting debut with Seedan, the Tamil remake of Nadanam, it was his performance in Mallu Singh that has caught the audience attention. He played dual characters in the film as Kerala boy Hair and Punjabi guy Harinder Singh and became an overnight sensation thanks to his action skills. The film turned out to be a blockbuster at the Box Office and the Hindi dubbed version of the film, Action King Mallu Singh was a hit on social media as well.

2 ) Orissa

Another film that portrayed the acting prowess of Unni Mukundan was M.Padmakumar's Orissa where Unni had to essay the role of a 65 year old Christudas. Though the film was an average grosser, but it has been praised for his acting in the film. In fact, Unni also revealed that he had bagged the lead role in 2014 blockbuster Vikramadithyan because of Orissa. The actor's look from the film is still a common topic across the social media.

3) Vikramadithyan

Vikramadithyan is said to be another landmark film in Unni Mukundan's career. The actor had to gain extra kilos for the portrayal of Vikram Shenoy and he was looking stylish as ever in the film. The actor's look from the film was a rage among the college students of Kerala upon its theatrical release. Similar to Mallu Singh, Vikramadithyan too was a huge money spinner at the box office.

4) KL 10 Patthu

KL 10 Patthu

KL 10 Patthu tells the story of a web journalist turned football player played by Unni Mukundan. The actor had to shed his weight for the film to look like a footballer and he was bang on it. The actor worked on his football skills as well and it was visible when the makers released a making video post the film's release. The Kozhikode accent mouthed by him was a hit as well.

Soon after the release of KL 10 Patthu, Unni Mukundan again had to gain weight in Binu S' second directorial outing Style. The film, which had released on January 2 2016, is touted as the first out and out action mass entertainer of Malayalam cinema. The film has been praised for the pre-interval fight sequences which is said to be one of the best action sequences ever made in Malayalam cinema. The hit film was later dubbed into Hindi and has clocked 7 million views on YouTube. The film also bagged yet another nick name for the actor, as 'Muscle Aliyan' of Malayalam cinema.

 

6) Kattum Mazhayum

Kattum Mazhayum deals with the topic of organ transplantation and Unni had to play a Namoothiri's role in the film as Jayanarayanan. The Harikumar directorial was screened at Bangalore International Film Festival and Delhi Habitat Film Festival. The film also won the Kerala State Award 2015 for Best Story and Film Critics Award for Second Best Film. The actor's transformation from an action guy in Style to a Namoothiri in Kattum Mazhayum was refreshing to see for the audience.

7) Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya

Another film where the Unni had to go for a massive weight loss was Sajan K Mathew's directorial debut Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya. The actor portrayed the role of an electrician in the film and delivered an earnest performance in the film. The song 'Arikil Pathiye' from Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya is a huge hit among the critics and was also charted in the top 5 songs of 2016.

8) Achayans

Unni Mukundan's first release of 2017 turned out to be the biggest hit of the actor's career. Though the film was promoted as a multi-starrer, but it was his portrayal 'Tony Vavachan', a handsome drunkard worked as wonders for the film. Also, the stupendous response to the song 'Anuragam Puthumazha Pole', which marked the singing debut of Unni has worked in favor of the film to record good occupancy through its theatrical release. The film, which had completed 75-days of its theatrical release is still playing in limited screens across the Kerala. Achayans also emerged as the first Rs. 10 crore Malayalam grosser for the actor.

 

9) Avarude Ravukal

Unni's second release of the year, Avarude Ravukal too was in news ever since the makers had revealed the posters of the actor in two different looks. The actor's one of the looks from the film was unrecognizable as it was circulated as Mohanlal's son Pranav Mohanlal across the social media. However, the speculations ended on a positive note post the film's release as audience realized it was Unni Kukundan's look from the film.

10) Clint

The teaser of Unni Mukundan's Clint is yet to be released, but the film has already started hitting the headlines thanks to the story of the film. Clint is based on the famous child prodigy artist Edmund Thomas Clind who had made more than 30,000 paintings before passing away at the age of 7. Unni Mukundan will be seen in two different looks as a 35-year old guy and a 73-year old man.

Meanwhile, Unni Mukundan's second Telugu outing Bhagmati opposite Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty is slated to release in August. The actor, who is fondly known as 'Baby Unni' for Telugu fans will be seen portraying the role of a police officer in the film. His debut Telugu film, Janatha Garage, where he played the main antagonist turned out to be the first Rs. 100 crore film of the actor.
