Chennai Box Office: Excellent opening for Iraivi, A Aa while ​​Idhu Namma Aalu, Housefull 3 lag behind

Last Friday saw the release of four films at the Chennai Box Office, namely Karthik Subbaraj's multi-starrer film Iraivi, the Vishnu Vishal-Nikki Galrani-starrer Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran, the Telugu film A Aa and Akshay Kumar comedy caper, Housefull 3.

Here is the Catch round-up of the Chennai Box Office this week.

Iraivi

Karthik Subbaraj's multi-starrer film Iraivi opened to packed houses at the Chennai Box Office. The film stars SJ Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Anjali, Kamalini Mukherjee and Pooja Devariya. From 200 screens, the film has raked in around Rs 85 lakh at the Box Office - overtaking the opening numbers of Karthik Subbaraj's last film, Jigarthanda.

​Idhu Namma Aalu​

Silambarasan-Nayanthara​'s comeback film,​ ​​​​​​​Idhu Namma Aalu​,​ continued its strong hold on the Box Office in its second weekend. After an excellent first week, the family entertainer managed to gross Rs 50 lakh in its second weekend. Viewers have praised the film for its plot and music. ​​​​​​​Idhu Namma Aalu has minted Rs 2.75 crore in the last ten days, making it Simbu's best performing film in recent times.

Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran

The ​​Vishnu Vishal - Nikki Galrani-starrer​ has grossed Rs 50 lakh from 18 screens in Chennai, to become the highest Chennai opener for Vishnu. The film has been well-received for its entertaining plot and for the performances by actors Soori and Robo Shankar.

Housefull 3

Bollywood film Housefull 3, the third installment in the Housefull series, minted Rs 25 lakh on its opening weekend from limited screens. The Chennai Box Office has welcomed Akshay Kumar with open arms since the success of Airlift. His frequent visits to Tamil Nadu for the shoot of the Rajnikanth-starrer Enthiran 2 has also translated well into ticket sales for Housefull 3. The Sajid-Farhad directorial also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh.

A Aa

Samantha Ruth Prabhu's fourth release of the year, A Aa, is off to a flying start at the Chennai Box Office. The Trivikram Srinivas-directorial had 90% occupancy throughout its opening weekend and minted Rs 23 lakh from just 90 shows. The film also stars Nithiin.
