Visual impairment is something that plays a role of an obstacle in someone's life. However, these women in Ahmedabad are striving to lead normal lives despite the condition.

A group of women from the Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh, a lodging and boarding school for around 200 visually impaired girls, are earning their living by making and selling rakhis for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

As per a coordinator, the girls have been making rakhis for the past 20 years, as it gives them happiness.

"We started making rakhis 20 years back and from last the two years, due to social media, the message has spread a lot. Even though the girls cannot see, we try to make it as beautiful as possible.

People say that our products are more reasonably priced compared to others in the market," the coordinator told ANI.

Once made, the rakhis are taken to nearby markets to be sold. A portion of the money earned from this is then given to the women as a stipend, while the rest is used for purchasing material.
Apart from rakhis, the girls also make lamps and other artefacts for festivals like Diwali.
