Snowfall in Srinagar affects life across Valley; Srinagar-Jammu highway remain closed for third day

The latest spell of snowfall in Srinagar and other areas has affected the normal activities across the Kashmir Valley.

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway shall remain closed for the third consecutive day on 18 January.

The trucks and passenger vehicles stranded along Banihal-Udhampur stretch are yet to be moved towards their destinations.

The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snowfall at most places in Kashmir Valley and several other areas across the state till today evening.

Kashmir University has suspended its classes in all teaching departments and campuses for ten days till 29 January.

All University examinations scheduled to be held today and tomorrow have also been postponed.

The residents are facing difficulties on account of shortage of essential supplies and electricity in several areas in the Valley.

The state administration has pressed men and machinery into service round the clock to ensure inter district road connectivity, supply of essentials and electricity in the affected areas.

The people, particularly those residing in avalanche prone areas have been advised to take precautionary measures and contact control rooms established at all district headquarters for any kind of help.
