J&K: Militants take two civilians hostage during Bandipora encounter, one rescued

In an encounter Thursday amidst the security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora, two civilians including one minor, were held hostage by the militants in Hajin.

Jammu and Kashmir police has said in a statement that one civilian has been rescued and the security forces are trying to free other hostages, although the minor is still under the grasp of militants


The Jammu and Kashmir Zone Police tweeted informing, “Efforts are on to rescue the civilian, reportedly a minor kept as hostage by terrorists.”

Since morning on Thursday, this is the second encounter taking place in the valley amongst the security personnel and the militants.

Another gunbattle is underway in Baramulla between terrorists and Indian forces, and the area has been cordoned off after a search operation was launched in Kalantara area on Wednesday, and a day after, the local police were able to trace the militants and the operation started.

In a statement issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, “In this incident, SHO Dangiwacha Muddasir Ahmad and his escort personnel received injuries. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital for medical attention.”

Post the deadly Pulwama attack, the search operation had been beefed up and the fight off between the armed forces and terrorists has doubled.
