The Matunga Railway Station in the Mumbai Division of Central Railway has made it to the Limca Book of Records 2018 for being manned exclusively by women staffers, a first on the Indian Railways.

The accomplishment comes six months after an all-woman staff started handling the overall operations of the railway station.

A total of 41 women staffers have been posted here, including 17 booking clerks, six Railway Protection Force personnel, eight ticket checkers, five-point persons, two announcers and two cleaning staff, working under the supervision of station manager Mamta Kulkarni.

This initiative was started to empower women and create an environment where they can make their own decisions.
