Gujarat: Mayawati slams state BJP govt over anti-migrants protest; says 'who voted Modi in Varanasi are attacked in Gujarat'

Amid the alleged attack against the north Indian migrants in several districts in Gujarat, people leaving the state. The protest broke over rape of a 14-month-old baby girl by an accused who belongs to Bihar. Speaking on the matter, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati slammed the BJP government in the state for the alleged attack.

Mayawati also attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the anti-migrant protest. She said who voted him in Varanasi and made him win are allegedly attacked in his Gujarat.

“It is sad that people who voted and made Modi ji win from Varanasi are being targeted in Gujarat. The BJP govt in Gujarat should ensure that strict action is taken against those responsible for such attacks,” she said.

The violent protests have erupted in the districts of Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Patan, Sabarkantha and Mehsana and the migrant workers from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have been targeted.

Thakor group has been said to be behind the violence and attack against the north Indian migrants. Alpesh Thakor, Congress MLA, who is also president of the Thakor Sena have been blamed for the violence.

Around 450 people have been arrested and 35 FIRs have been filed in the case. Meanwhile, The state home minister Pradeepsinh Jadeja asked the migrants to return back. "It is our responsibility to provide security to those who come to Gujarat for employment from other states... We are very serious about resuming the law and order in the state.

The state police chief is reviewing the situation, he said.  A report has also been submitted to the Central government, he added.
