Security tightened after a suspicious bag containing RDX found at the Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Friday, officials said.

Delhi Police said that a call regarding the suspicious bag was received around 1 am on Friday. CISF personnel found the bag near gate number 2 of the arrival terminal.

The black-colored trolley bag spotted near pillar number 4, was removed from the location and kept in a cooling pit.

The police came into action immediately which caused panic among passengers. Also, passengers were stopped to make exit the arrival terminal for some time. Also, the road outside T3 was blocked.

Also, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team were rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off. For a few hours, the movement of vehicles and passengers was also stopped.

Around 1:30 am, the BDDS team reached the spot and control the situation as per the standard operating procedure (SOP). The bomb squad also took the x-ray images of the bag and they found it doubtful.

As per the preliminary inputs, the bag contained the RDX. Later, it was checked by a bomb detector and a dog, which confirmed it to be the explosive items.

The bag containing RDX was safely taken to a cooling pit in the isolation area with the help of a Threat Containment Vehicle (TCV) around 3 am.

After completion, the movement of passengers and vehicles was resumed around 3.30 am.

It could be an explosive or an improvised explosive device (IED), but it is not clear at present, the sources said.

In the meantime, security has been tightened at the Delhi airport in view of the bomb threat.
