Amritsar Train Accident: Train driver claims he was given green signal by the railway authorities, ahead of the incident

The train tragedy which occurred in Amritsar yesterday, and claimed 58 lives whereas left 48 others injured, has now seen a major development in which the driver of the train has reportedly claimed that he was given a green signal by the railway authorities.

He added that he was not aware of the celebrations or any even t taking place on the tracks and neither he was alerted by the railway officials at the time he was given a green signal.

Just after the incident took place, the Punjab police and Railways had detained the driver of the DMU Jalandhar-Amritsar passenger train for ramming over 58 passengers and injuring 48 others.

On Friday night, during the celebrations of Dussehra, the speeding train mowed down scores of people in Amritsar. The matter came to light when a video of the incident became viral on the social media and thereafter, mainstream media took over the case.

The Punjab police officials commented on the incident that they have detained the driver from the Ludhiana railway station and are questioning him over the tragedy. The accident took place in Amritsar city at the Jora Phatak near Dhobi Ghat.
