In an appalling incident reported from Gujarat’s Ankleshwar town, a man was taken into police custody for allegedly murdering his wife by injecting cyanide solution into her drip bottle while she was going through treatment at a private hospital nearly a month back.

The incident of crime, which was carried out by the accused as a consequence of marital discord, became known on the basis of a forensic report received by the cops of Friday, almost a month after victim, idetified as Urmila, aged 34, died while undergoing treatment for chest pain, police said.

The FSL report indicated that the victim died because cyanide was injected into her body, which the cops said was bought by her husband, identified as Jignesh Patel from the factory he worked in.

According to the case details, the accused tied the knot with Vasava seven years ago, but their love marriage was marred because of discord. On 8th July, the victim complained about pain in her chest and was taken to private hospital.

"When the victim was undergoing treatment, the accused stealthily took out a cyanide tablet and made a solution out of it. He then injected the solution into the drip bottle attached to her using a syringe when the doctors and other hospital staff were not present there," police said.

The victim drew her last breath soon after the cyanide solution entered her body, and the police then registered a case of accidental death, he added.

With the report received from the forensic proving the cause of death to be cyanide, police filed a case of murder against Jignesh Patel under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday ahead of his arrest, police said.
