Bangladesh won their first World Cup 2019 match against South Africa by 21 runs as they put 331 runs on board after Faf du Plessis asked them to bat first. This was Bangladesh’s highest World Cup score and their second World Cup win against South Africa.

Bangladesh’s captain Mashrafe Mortaza in a post-match interview said that they were happy to bat first after losing the toss to South Africa. We were skeptical at first but we knew that we can win the match as teams have won here before after batting first. England defeated South Africa by 104 runs at the same venue after batting first.

Mashrafe praised his team and said that they showed team effort. All the players played really well, specially Mushfiqur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan. Our batsmen really set a good platform for our bowlers to bowl well as they had a good total to defend.

South African skipper Faf du Plessis said that sub-continent teams can really defend their total if they have a good score on board.

Mashrafe hopes that his bowlers and batsmen put on a good show against New Zealand on June 5 at Kennington Oval. The match will be a day-night game.
