Watching porn in Assembly gets Odisha MLA suspended

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 14 February 2017, 1:22 IST

Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das, on 15 December, was suspended by the Odisha Assembly speaker Niranjan Pujari for a week after he was allegedly caught watching obscene videos on his phone.

A private news channel showed him scrolling through his smart phone and accused him of watching porn in the Assembly on 14 December.

However, Das said that he was not allowed to put forward his clarification and claimed that the speaker's decision was unfair.

What makes things more complicated is the fact that Das was going to move a privilege motion against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the same day. According to a Hindustan Times report, he intended to move the motion because the CM allegedly gave incorrect information to his questions on the home department.

Congress and BJP walked out of the Assembly protesting against the speaker's decision. They alleged that Das was held guilty without giving him a chance to present his side of the story.

Das, on the other hand, said that his mobile phone did not contain any obscene material. In 2012, two BJP MLAs were also caught while they were allegedly watching porn videos in the Karnataka Assembly.
