Re-telecast of Ramayan breaks all record; garners 170 million viewers

Doordarshan is treating their viewers during the lockdown by re-telecasting 80s and 90s famous shows including Mahabharat, Ramayan, Circus, Hum Bhi Hai, among others. As other TV shows have drained up DD came up with the idea of showcasing the yesteryear shows to keep the people at home during the quarantine period.

Talking about the famous mythological show Ramayan that came back on the small screen on 28th March have garnered millions of views in just first four shows. Yes, the show that is currently telecasting on DD twice a day i.e. 9 am-10 am in the morning and 9 pm-10 pm in the night. To announce the good news, Prasar Bharti’s CEO Shashi Shekhar took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Thrilled to share that the re-telecast of RAMAYAN on @ddnational has garnered the highest ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015 ( source: @BARCIndia )”

Even, BARC’s Chief Executive Sunil Lulla also applauded this move and termed it as “brilliant”. Lulla was left surprised when he saw that the show is receiving positive views even after so many years.

Meanwhile, the show garnered 34 million viewers with TRP rating of 3.4 on its first day of the telecast itself, however the very same day the viewers spiked to 45 million with TRP rating 5.2%.
