A 36-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by three youths at a village in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district, police said today.

Two of the three accused have been arrested on the basis of the woman's complaint. "The incident took place on 11 October at Pirda village under Basna police station limits when the victim arrived at her paternal place during Dussehra festival," Basna SHO Narendra Yadav said.

As per preliminary investigation, the victim, who works in a private school as a cook in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, had come to her parents' home for Dussehra. On the night of 11 October, the victim had gone along with her sister behind their house to relieve herself.

Subsequently, three youths, identified as Devendra (23), Farid Ali (25) and Prince Saluja (23), allegedly forced her to sit in their car and later raped her, the SHO said. The trio then fled abandoning the woman close to the house.

The victim lodged the complaint in this connection on 14 October following which Devendra and Farid were arrested on Saturday while the car, which belongs to Prince, used in the crime was also seized, he said.

Efforts are on nab the third accused who is absconding, he said. The three accused were booked under sections 376 (g) (gang rape) and 506 (b) (criminal intimidation) of IPC, the SHO said adding that further probe was on.
