Differently-abled people staged a protest in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on 10 May, demanding that the existing government grant them reservation status and job guarantee in the state.

The protest was held by the members of the Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association.

The police reportedly used lathicharge to disperse the protesters. Some were also detained by the police officials.

A police official told PTI that as soon as the members tried to march towards the Civil Secretariat the police swung into action and detained around a dozen of them.

The protesters' demands included separate counters in government, semi-government departments and concession in electricity and water tariff.
