5-year-old raped and stoned to death in Kanpur, 11-year-old among accused

In a shocking incident, the body of a five-year-old was recovered by the Kanpur police from a water pumphouse on 20 November.

The girl had been raped and her face was deformed to conceal her identity before being dumped. The family members of the deceased minor informed the police that she was missing two days ago.

The police said that the girl was raped on 18 November, while she was murdered on 19 November.

After the body was recovered, the police sprung into action and nabbed three youths in connection to the crime. During investigation, they brokedown and accepted their role in the heinous crime.

According to the police, one of the three accused is an 11-year-old, and all three accused were known to the mother of the victim and they had initially 'tried helping the family members in searching the missing girl.' However, a ragpicker had seen the accused with the young victim and identified them.

The police have sent the body for postmortem examination and the reports are awaited.

According to media reports, Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur said that during investigation all the accused accepted having raped the minor and later killing her.

He added that the accused also confessed that the girl had been murdered on Thursday, 19 November, after which the body had been dumped.
