Teacher Saves Student's Life

An impressive video that has come to light displayed a teacher’s heroic action which ended up saving her 9-year-old student’s life. The student was in class when he tried to open a water bottle with his mouth and choked on the cap.

The teacher quickly came to the boy’s rescue and carried out the Heimlich maneuver and saved his life. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. Goodnews Movement’s Instagram account uploaded the dramatic clip on Wednesday and it has more than 3 million views.

The student, identified as Robert, a third grader at New Jersey’s East Orange Community Charter School, was about to drink water from the bottle but instead of opening the cap with his hands, he used his mouth and it went awfully wrong.

The boy straight away started choking on the cap and he could not force it out of his throat. He got up and ran towards his teacher for help. JaNeice Jenkins, his teacher, jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver technique to push out the bottle cap.

“I started it with my teeth and then I was squeezing it a little and then the water pushed the cap to my throat,” Robert told WABC, Daily Mail reported.

Jenkins, who has been teaching at the school for five years, was trained in CPR and basic first aid when she was a preschool teacher and recently took a refresher course.

“He ran to me and couldn't talk so he was pointing to his throat,” Jenkins said. “Then I just went to deliver the Heimlich maneuver and luckily it popped out and he was okay.”
