Railways Jobs 2020: Piyush Goyal's 125 days recruitment plan for migrants under Garib Kalyan Rojgar

Amid job crisis due to coronavirus, the Modi government is planning to employ migrants who become unemployed due to pandemic. Recently, Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has raised expectations for jobless people by announcing 8 lakh recruitment drive.

Indian Railways to recruit 8 lakh migrant workers and others, in the next 125 days till October 31 under the Modi government’s newly launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana Abhiyaan (GKRYA).


These new jobs will be generated in the infrastructure sector of the railways with an investment of Rs 1800 crore.

Taking information to Twitter, Piyush Goyal said, “fulfilling our duty to the nation, Railways to generate 8 lakh man-days of employment under Prime Minister's Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan in infrastructure projects worth ₹1800 crore.”

 

Earlier on June 24, the Ministry of Railways reviewed the progress of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan with Zonal Railways and Railway PSU through video conferencing.

The rojgar abhiyaan has been implemented in 116 districts of 6 States i.e., Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa & Jharkhand. Till now, around 160 works infrastructure works have been identified under different Zonal Railways

Objective of Garib Kalyaan Rojgar Abhiyaan:

The mission has been launched by PM Modi to empower and provide livelihood opportunities in areas or villages where a large number of migrants workers affected by the deadly novel-coronavirus.

PM Modi announced that an amount of Rs 50,000 crores would be spent on building infrastructure in rural areas under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan.

As of now, Railways would be spent Rs 1800 crore in 116 districts of 6 states.

Meanwhile, Zonal Railways have also been instructed to get the sanction of proposed works under MGNREGS. The Zonal Railways will need to submit their report to Ministry every Friday till the end of October 2020.
