The Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board (GPSSB) on January 29 announced that the competitive examination for the recruitment of junior clerks has been postponed after if came to light that the question papers had been leaked. The examination was scheduled to be conducted by the Board yesterday across 2,995 exam centres.
The Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad have arrested as many as 16 people in connection with the paper leak case and recovered copy of the question paper from their possession. 15 accused were arrested from Vadodara and one from Hyderabad. Seven out of the 16 accused are part of a gang from Bihar.
The accused were booked under sections 406 and 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (chreating) and 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The paper leak incident came as a shocker for the candidates who came to appear in the competition examination. As many as 9.5 lakh candidates had applied for 1,181 junior clerk posts.
Thousands of candidates reached the examination halls from far-off places of the state yesterday and expressed anger over the development.
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) along with other candidates blocked roads and raised voices against the Gujarat Government.
Furious over the development, candidates demanded strong action against those responsible for the paper leak.
Police teams were deployed at the exam centres and bus stands as agitated candidates expressed their anguish and anger over the development.
The Government has announced that the Gujarat Panchayat Service Junior Clerk Recruitment Exam 2023 will be conducted within 100 days. Giving details, GPSSB’s in-charge chairman Sandeep Kumar said that the examination will be conducted within 100 days and a new date will be announced in the next few days.
