On 25 June, Chennai police released video footage of the grisly 24 June murder of an Infosys techie at the city's Nungambakkam railway station.

The victim, identified as 24-year-old Swathi S, was hacked to death by a man wielding a sickle on the train platform. Swathi was waiting to board the train when she was approached by a young man. After a few minutes of a heated argument, the man hit her with the sickle and repeatedly struck her until she died.

The footage reveals a young man walking with a backpack. Police were quoted as saying that a man had stalked Swathi for months before the incident.

The station does not have CCTV and the police are yet to confirm the source of the footage.

Following her death, Infosys issued the following statement: "We are saddened by the unfortunate incident that has led to the demise of our employee in Chennai. We are working with the local authorities as they investigate the matter and will continue to provide our co-operation and support."
