Will Salman Khan challenge Dangal with Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai?

Dangal starring Aamir Khan has opened the 350 crore club at the Indian Box-Office. As the film is about to end its run at the box-office, there are murmurs speculating if Salman Khan's Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai would challenge the records set by Aamir Khan.

While this year has many substantial releases in the pipeline, it is Salman Khan who has blocked two of the biggest holiday slots, Eid and Christmas for Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai respectively. While the main challenge for all releases this year would be to breach past the 150 crore mark at the box office, the two Salman Khan films are expected to do more than 300 crore at the Box-Office.

Tubelight:

After Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the expectations are sky high from this Kabir Khan directorial. The film will see Salman Khan essay the character of a person who is slow to pick up the happenings around him and is set against the backdrop of Sino-Indian war.

If the film lives up to the hype, it might come very close to the records set by Dangal. The only issue with Tubelight will be the constant flow of releases every week as against the benefit of 3 week clear run for Dangal.

Tiger Zinda Hai:

The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is pegged as the big Christmas 2017 release and if it manages to come solo, the chances to set new records would multiply. The movie is a sequel to 2012's successful film, Ek Tha Tiger and the trade is already excited about Tiger Zinda Hai.

Christmas is considered as one of the best period for a film's release and if the movie is high on content supported by stylish action, it might surprise us all with its performance at the Box-Office.

Apart from the above two releases, the Hindi dubbed version SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2 and Shankar's sci-fi film, 2.0 are also expected to do humongous business, However breaching past the 300 crore mark would be quite an uphill task for all of them.

History:

In the past as well, Salman Khan has challenged the records set by Aamir Khan, but he has failed to surpass the same.

  • 3 Idiots (2009): 202 crore
  • Ek Tha Tiger (2012): 199 crore
  • Dhoom 3 (2013): 273 crore
  • Kick (2014): 232 crore
  • PK (2014): 340 crore
  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015): 320 crore

While Salman consistently created opening day, opening weekend and opening week record in last seven years, the actor has failed to set any lifetime records at the peak of his career. If his two releases fail to create any records, it is Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan which might just rewrite history in Diwali 2018 weekend.

Shah Rukh Khan has two films slated to release in 2017 i.e. Raees and Rehnuma. While the clash of Raees with Kaabil has subdued the chances of film to even breach past the 150 crore mark, Rehnuma being a non-festive release is not expected to create any major box office records.
