Priyanka Chopra honoured with 'Mother Teresa Memorial Award' for social justice

Bollywood actress also famous as 'Desi Girl' Priyanka Chopra has been awarded this year's Mother Teresa Memorial Award. In fact, Priyanka, who was instrumental in fighting the rights of displaced persons and refugees as UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador, has been awarded this award for her special contribution in social work.

She had recently visited Syria where she met the refugees and talked to them. PeeCee who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador was called by the Harmony Foundation for this honor. But as Bollywood actress was busy in schedule, the award was received by Madhu Chopra.


On receiving the honor, Madhu Chopra said, “I humbly accept the award on her behalf. As a mother, I am immensely proud to have a child who is so compassionate and has so much kindness in her. She exemplifies the fact the more you give the more you get. Even as a child, she was influenced by Mother Teresa and has been supporting Prem Niwas in Bareilly.”

“It is justifiable for her to receive this honorable award and I am immensely proud of her. I’m thankful and I’m sure she is humbled that her efforts have been recognised by the foundation that believes in helping the needy and supporting the deprived and raising funds for those who are impoverished,” she adds.

Celebrities like Kiran Bedi, Anna Hazare, Oscar Fernandes, Sudha Murthy, Malala Yusufzai, Sushmita Sen and Bilkis Bano have been honored with this award.
