The police have arrested accused Sukhbir Singh in connection with the murder of IBM employee, Kusum Singla. The 31-year-old techie was found dead in her south-east Bengaluru apartment on 19 January.

According to the police, Singla was strangled with the cord of a laptop at her Mahaveer Kings apartment in Kadugodi.. Following Singh's arrest, police claimed they had solved the case within 24 hours. The police said they used social media posts and cell phone records to track down Singh.

The victim, who hails from Punjab, reportedly shifted to Bengaluru in August 2015. Singla, who is divorced, was employed with tech giant IBM. According to the police, Singla and Singh met on a social networking site. The two reportedly had a tiff about money when they met on 19 January. Police said Singh had asked the victim to pay Rs. 50,000. When she refused to pay up, he strangled her in a fit of rage, police said.

Police are probing further to ascertain if it was a case of extortion.
