Baichung on election results 2016: Will accept people's verdict, look into what went wrong

Darjeeling saw two high-profile contenders fight for this year's Assembly Election 2016. Trinamool Congress' Baichung Bhutia was up against Asok Bhattacharya from the Left front.

And this year again, was no different for Baichung as he lost to Asok Bhattacharya. Baichung got 63982 votes while Asok gained 78054 votes.

Baichung had earlier contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha election for TMC from Darjeeling but lost to the BJP's SS Ahluwalia by nearly 2 lakh votes.

According to a report in oneindia.com, TMC won Siliguri for the first time in 2011 Assembly Elections after Rudranath Bhattacharya defeated four-time MLA Asok Bhattacharya by 5,006 votes.
