Bad news for Reliance Jio users who were expecting a cashback on their recharge!

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 13 November 2017, 12:09 IST

Telecom giant Relaince Jio had been offering some amazing offers for it's customers by giving them free mobile data and voice calls at extremely cheap prices. Not only this they even announced three types of cashback offer on every recharge done between November 10 and 25 and is of Rs. 399 or above.

According to the cashback offer, Rs. 50 vouchers will be credited to your MyJio digital wallet and can be used on the subsequent recharges or data top ups that you will do every month. But the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has now said that it will examine the latest cash back offer strictly as to check for any violation of rules.

The director general of COAI, Rajan Mathews, in an interview said “If the offer is in the nature of cash back, the question arises as to what conditions attach to receiving the cash back. Is this another way of discounting the service cost? TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) will need to parse these offers to determine if any of this violates their tariff regulations in letter and spirit.”

Reliance Jio led by Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani has earlier accused COAI of only looking into the interest of three big telecom companies viz. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea as the lobby group members of COAI includes those of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular and the newly entered Jio.

COAI said that where cash gets involved, the terms and conditions become more important than the coupons or the minutes that are used and “hence the need for the regulator to decide”.
