Dhaba owner fined Rs 50,000 for charging Rs 20 more for a cold drink

Ashok Yadav, a dhaba owner from Durg, Chhattisgarh, was asked to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for charging Rs 20 more than the maximum retail price of a cold drink.

The decision was passed by Maitrey Mathur, president of the consumer forum after a complaint was filed by Navin Thakur, a resident from the Subhash Nagar area of Durg.

Yadav will also have to pay a sum of Rs 10,000 as litigation expenses to the court. Additionally, as per the judgement, if Yadav fails to pay the amount withing a month, Navin Thakur can charge him 10 per cent interest as well.

According to Navin Thakur, he was asked to pay Rs 100 after he purchased a 2 litre bottle of a cold drink. When he protested that the MRP on the bottle was Rs 80 and demanded the rest of his money back, he was ill-treated by Yadav.

After that, Navin sent a notice to the dhaba owner through an advocate but Yadav did not reply. Following which, he filed a complaint in the consumer forum.
