A day after Mohammad Shahbuddin's cell was searched in connection with journalist Rajdeo Ranjan's murder in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) strongman was shifted from Siwan Jail to Bhagalpur Central Jail, according to a Pradesh18 report.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have alleged that Shahabuddin had pulled some strings while serving while his jail term in Siwan and played a role in the killing of Rajdeo Ranjan.

BJP leaders also demanded that Shahabuddin should be shifted from Siwan Jail to another jail.

Bihar Police have already arrested Upender Singh, an aide of Shahabuddin, and are likely to take him on remand to quiz him in connection with Ranjan's killing.

Singh was sent to jail on charges of violation of the new Excise Act.

Police in Siwan said that Ranjan's killing was part of a pre-planned conspiracy.
