Rajan chose to emphasis on the issue of tolerance. He said, "excessive political correctness stifles progress".
When asked about whether ideas or behaviour that hurt a particular group of people or an intellectual position should be banned, Rajan said, "Possibly, but a quick resort to bans will chill all debate as everyone will be anguished by ideas they dislike." He called for an improved environment for tolerance and mutual respect.
