Maharashtra polls: Voting held under candlelight in Pune's Shivaji Nagar due to no electricity

Voting is underway at a polling booth at Sivaji Nagar in Pune under candlelight due to unavailability of electricity.

"The electricity supply is not there at this school. The problem was found in an electricity meter. Till now, it has not been resolved. Meanwhile, a generator is being provided by Election Commission. Voting is underway. There is no problem in that," said Sanjay Padhtare, Sector Officer.


Polling official had candles put on their tables to help them see voters details correctly.

Padhtare stated that eight polling booths have been impacted because of the unavailability of electricity.

Voting for 288 constituencies of Maharashtra commenced at 7 am and will go on till 6 pm in the evening.

The electoral destiny of 3237 in Maharashtra will be secured in EVMs by the voters who will practice their franchise in the Assembly polls

There are 96,661 voting stations set in Maharashtra for citizens to exercise their democratic franchise.
