A woman revenue official in Satara district of Maharashtra has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by district court in relation to a bribery case against her.

Special Judge V M Mohite sentenced Satara Tehsildar Supriya Subhash Bagwade to the jail term after finding her guilty under Section 7 (public servant accepting bribe) and Section 13 (criminal misconduct by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The judge accepted the evidence produced by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 against the officer in the verdict pronounced last week.

Bagwade was caught red-handed while she was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 on September 2, 2011.

A Satara resident had approached her for changing the status of agriculture land to non-agriculture and Bagwade had demanded Rs 20,000 to make the changes.

Later, the complainant approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint against her under the anti-corruption law.
