Ex-Raigad SP likely to face action for blunders in Sheena Bora murder case

In a latest development in the Sheena Bora murder case, it is very likely that the Maharashtra government will initiate action against former Superintendent of Police (SP) of Raigad RD Shinde. It was under his jurisdiction that cops had found the burnt body of Sheena Bora in May 2012, but did not register an FIR and just made a diary entry.

According to a dna report, former Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal had on 30 September this year, submitted a report charging Shinde for the blunders that led to the Sheena Bora case being buried for years after her murder.

The dna report quoted a senior official saying that an inquiry was initiated under the DGP's supervision, after which he submitted a report against RD Shinde, recommending action.

Presently, DGP Pravin Dixit is working on a more comprehensive report on Shinde and the report is expected to be out within a few days, following which action will be initiated against him accordingly.

Suspicions were raised over Shinde when senior police inspector Subhash Mirge, in his statement to his seniors, mentioned that he had brought the body to the notice of Shinde but he was told not to register a murder case, nor file an accidental death report or investigate the matter. Instead, he was asked to register a diary entry, even though it was evident that it was a murder case.

Sheena was allegedly killed by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai on 24 April 2012.

The body was later burnt in Raigad forest the next day. Villagers had discovered the body in May 2012 and alerted the police. The case, however, only came into light a few months ago.
