Three days after AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said that he won't chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' even at knife-point, an AIMIM MLA, Waris Pathan has been suspended for from Maharashtra Assembly for refusing to chant the same slogan.

The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ranit Patil moved a proposal that ensured Pathan's suspension during the current budget session.

After Pathan refused to shout 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', the legislative assembly became polarised with legislators from all other parties demanding that Pathan be suspended. According to Pathan, it isn't mandatory to chant the slogan as "The Constitution does not say it."

"We will say Jai Hind. We won't chant Bharatmata ki Jai," Pathan was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.
