The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 5 August filed a supplementary chargesheet against Rajendra Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan, in connection with the murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey in the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court.

Rajan was also present through video conferencing while filing the supplementary chargesheet.

On 25 July, the CBI sought more time to file the supplementary chargesheet, saying that some procedural permissions were needed as prosecution sanction against Rajan.

Dey, a veteran crime reporter, was shot dead near his residence at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on 11 June, 2011, by motorcycle-borne shooters allegedly at Rajan's command.

Four persons on two bikes fired at Dey, who was also riding a bike. After the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Rajan was allegedly upset with two articles written by Dey and, therefore, ordered his killing.
