An inquiry was ordered and four persons were booked after a 34-year-old convict, serving life imprisonment, was allegedly beaten to death inside a Muzaffarnagar jail barrack on 23 June.
One inmate, Chandrahas, was killed and another inmate was injured after being allegedly attacked by fellow inmates inside barrack number 3 in the district jail.
Chanderhas was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
A case has been registered against his fellow inmates - Pradeep, Shahrukh, Pramod and Sukka - under various section of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prisoner Act in this connection. An inquiry has also been ordered, District Jail DIG VK Shekhar said.
Security has been tightened within the premises and extra police force has been deployed.
