A 30-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and his family over a family dispute in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The deceased woman has been identified as Reena. She was reportedly burnt by her husband, Sanjeev, and his family. Her body was later dumped in a vacant plot.

After the informers told the police about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. A case has been registered against Sanjeev and his family in this regard. According to the police, a family dispute could be the reason behind the murder.

In a separate incident, a 23-year-old woman, from Nirgajni village, was thrown into a Ganga canal after she expressed a wish to marry against the wishes of her family, police said on 27 April.

On 26 April, the woman's family reportedly took her to the canal and threw her in but was rescued by some villagers, police said.

A case has been registered against her father and brother under relevant sections of IPC. They are absconding, police said.
