UP: Bride walks out of marriage after groom lands up drunk

It seems it is the season of cancelled weddings in Uttar Pradesh. Recently, a wedding was called off due to the shortage of ice-cream and now a bride walked out of her wedding ceremony as she realised that not only was the groom drunk, but he was also considerably older than her. The incident occurred in Deep Pur village.

The bride's decision at the venue led to some ugly scenes with both sides getting into a confrontation, SP(Rural) Surender Tiwari said.

The incident took place late on 29 April, when the bride (26) noticed that the groom looked much older than her and was reeking of alcohol, during the wedding ceremony, Tiwari said.

She refused to exchange garlands with him and walked out.

The police was then asked to intervene following which, the wedding was called off and the groom and his family returned to their village, he added.
